  • Wood last played for the LA Lakers before the NBA All-Star break
  • LA Lakers signed him on a one-year contract in the offseason

While the Los Angeles Lakers are pushing hard for the postseason – there is a piece of sad news regarding their depth. Forward Christian Wood is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will remain out for several weeks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

With this, it seems unlikely that Wood will play in any game before the conclusion of the regular season. He was signed as a backup for Anthony Davis. The team will evaluate the 28-year-old after the procedure. This will provide an exact timeline for Wood’s return.

LA Lakers’ Forward Christian Wood to Undergo surgery

Wood was out of action for more than a month already. He experienced swelling in the knee during the All-Star break. Former Houston Rockets star signed a one-year, veterans’ minimum contract with the Lakers in the offseason. He averages 6.9 points on 46.6% shooting and 5.1 rebounds this season in 50 games.

As for the Lakers, the team stands in ninth position in the Western Conference at the moment. The Lakers have 37 wins from 69 games. They are five games behind the fifth-placed New Orleans Pelicans. They need as much depth available to support LeBron James and AD to make it into the postseason.
