Preparing for the Copa America 2024 and the Olympics, Argentina did well against El Salvador in an international friendly match. Although star performer Lionel Messi was missing due to injury, Argentina cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory, with goals from Cristian Romero, Enzo Fernandez and Giovani Le Celso.

Coach Lionel Scaloni made small adjustments in starting 11 for the team that won the 2022 World Cup for Argentina. Switching to the traditional 4-4-2 formation, Scaloni used Angel di Maria and Lautaro Martinez up front. The win was Argentina’s third win over El Salvador in as many matches.

Argentina Defeats El Salvador in International Friendly

Argentina raced to a 2-0 lead in the first half only with goals from Enzo Fernandez and Cristian Romero. Angel De Maria provided the assist for the first goal in the 12th minute of the game for Romero. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandes doubled the lead with a simple tap-in goal off a rebound in the 42nd minute. Inter Milan star striker Martinez squared off the ball for Le Celso for the third goal of the match.

Scaloni made seven changes in the match introducing McAllister, Garnacho, Molina and Valentine Barco to give them important game time with the first team.  The match was played at Lincon Financial Field in Philadelphia. Argentina will play Costa Rica next in another friendly match in the States. Lionel Messi is expected to sit out in the Costa Rica game also considering heavy MLS schedules.
